About Maji Manga

Plunge into the world of manga!

Maji Manga is a project that aims to share all the ways to enjoy manga – how to read it, how to draw it, its history, culture and trivia – with manga fans from around the world. Maji Manga offers the Manga Boot Camp, a workshop tour that immerses you in everything manga, and the Maji Manga app that allows you to delve deeper into the world of manga.

A special experience held in The City of Manga and Anime – Niigata, the Manga Boot Camp is a course program that allows you to gain a deeper understanding and experience of manga culture.

At the Manga Boot Camp, you will be immersed in manga through workshops on manga creation by professional creators/university faculty, lectures and cultural exchange meetings with famous manga artists, guided tours of The City of Manga and Anime and much more.

Manga Creation Course

In this course made up of 15 separate one-hour blocks, at the end of which you will complete your very own two-page manga, professional manga creators/university professors will hold lectures on ‘storytelling tips’, ‘drafting’, ‘inking’, and more.

Lectures by Manga Creators

You will meet manga artists in-person at lectures and exchange events and can view plenty of real manga manuscripts and autographs at the Niigata Manga Animation Museum.

Guided Tour of Niigata

Enjoy a guided tour of Japanese culture as it appears in various manga, including a visit to a traditional Japanese house and garden, a cosplay bar, and a kimono dressing experience. You will also tour the Niigata Manga Animation Museum and The Niigata City Manga House, as well as experience an AR adventure unique to the City of Manga and Anime.

The City of Manga and Anime Niigata

Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture, where the Manga Boot Camp is held, progressively promotes urban development as The City of Manga and Anime. Niigata Prefecture is home to many manga artists such as Shuichi Shigeno (Initial D), Takeshi Obata (Death Note), and Fujio Akatsuka (Osomatsu-kun) to name a few , and as such, Niigata City has established The Niigata Manga Animation Museum and The Niigata City Manga House. Furthermore, home to Kaishi Professional University’s Faculty of Animation and Manga and the Japan Animation and Manga College (JAM), Niigata City continues to demonstrate its presence as Japan’s heart of manga.

Maji Manga App

An app to immerse yourself in manga culture, including how to read and draw manga, its history and culture, trivia, user discussion forums, AR and XR (extended reality) functions, and more.
